Understanding the directory
Which cemeteries this guide brings together
Munich’s municipal register comprises 29 dedicated cemetery grounds: 26 with active burials, two historic cemeteries closed to burials and the Tischlerstraße War Cemetery. They appear as 28 cards here because the old and new sections of Waldfriedhof are presented together.
The directory also includes church, Jewish and other historic burial grounds within the city. Multiple classifications are intentional: a church cemetery may also be historic.
Municipal
The dedicated cemetery grounds of the City of Munich.
Church
Church cemeteries and churchyards across Munich’s districts.
Jewish
The New and Old Jewish Cemeteries, each with different visiting arrangements.
Historic
Historically significant grounds, including cemeteries without regular burials.
War cemetery
The Tischlerstraße War Cemetery as a distinct place of remembrance.
